Stirling is one of Scotland's most historic cities, which many major battles for Scottish independence took place in and around. Lush and green, Stirling is often called "The Gateway to the Highlands", sitting atop rolling hills and situated near a beautiful loch inhabited with local wildlife. The city is extremely student-oriented, pedestrian-friendly, and offers all of the amenities of a large cosmopolitan city. It is also only about 45 minutes by train from Glasgow or Edinburgh giving students easy access to both cities for a day of exploration.
